American Wife by Curtis Sittenfeld
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
This book gave me a strange, latent sympathy for George W. (I know, right?)
It also gave me the squicks from all the sex scenes.
The book is a fictionalized biography of a first lady – even if you don’t read the ‘source info’ page at the end, it’s pretty easy to figure out that it’s Laura Bush.
I enjoyed the book, and like the main characters a lot more than I thought I would. Well, except for the Karl Rove character – he didn’t play a huge part in the book, but I feel like it confirmed that he may be evil incarnate.
This one I definitely recommended. I don’t know why I loved it so much, but I really did. It took me a while to get into it but once I did I wished it was longer.
What is next?
I’m reading something called “Off Armageddon Reef” which is a post-apocalyptic story about a bunch of colonists that had to use their spaceships to hide from the evil overlords of the galaxy. Yeah. My brother-in-law recommended it. π
Sometimes it’s hard to pinpoint why we like books as much as we do. I am really liking your book review posts. Are these all books you own or did you get from the library?
I’m thinking maybe we should do a book exchange or better yet maybe start a book club? I know most of the group is already in a book club but maybe meeting like every 2 months since it takes me awhile to get through books plus it’s a good excuse to drink wine and gab right???
You know me! Any excuse to drink wine & gab with my friends! Add a little reading in, and life is pretty good.
I know I already told you this, but in case anyone else is interested – I get most of my books from the library. I have a book buying problem, which has morphed into a book storage problem, and I am trying to be frugal & minimalistic right now. Until I can put in a library, anyways! π
