PORN!!! AND PIZZA!

Jimmy Choo Friday

So – I had written a very lovely entry on the recent books that I’ve read, and for once, I did not write it in word and copy & paste. So the blog gods punished me by eating all of the entry except for shoe when I hit publish.

So – to recap.

I did not post yesterday, because I stayed home and played “Age of Empires” which is not as much fun as “Age of Mythology. However, “Age of Mythology” was on the less portable computer, and I couldn’t play that and watch eleventy-million episodes of Buffy at the same time. So, I made do with the inferior game.

Speaking of games, any recommendations for an inexpensive but fun and good game that involves either a)shooting, or b)flying, or possibly c) both? For a grown-up man, so it’s okay (and probably preferable) if there’s lots of graphic violence. My taste runs more towards RPGs and if there are actual battles, I would rather have swords and other assorted medieval weaponry and hack at the enemy up close. Ummm…so…any suggestions?

I read “The Whore’s Child and other Stories” by Richard Russo. It was very good. I love his writing. It is sad (usually), but also beautiful. And it inspires me to go out there and write short stories of my very own.

Then, I read “Pick Me Up” by Zoe Rice. Which I didn’t like. And I hate admitting that I didn’t like it, because it was recommended to me by someone. I’m not positive who that someone is (because I am too lazy to look), but I think that everything else recommended by that someone has been fantastic, so this is probably just a divergent taste issue. However, the book drove me crazy because it is populated by egregious celebrity name-dropping. In a world that also has fictitious celebrities. And they co-exist. Which really does nothing, in my opinion, except guarantee that your book will be completely irrelevant as soon as the named stars slip back into obscurity. It also mixed up real famous dead artists with fictional new up-and-coming artists, and that worked for me. The “ooh I just saw Sarah Jessica Parker at the movie premier for blah blah fictional man” just made me want to poke my eyes out with a fork (or poke a badger with a spoon). However, I will be the first to admit that I have unique issues. And the book was just what it promised – light, fluffy, chick-lit. Which is not generally my genre of choice, anyway. So, person who recommended it. I’m sorry. And I have a package for you that I need to send to you, but I am lazy.

Which is also why Margaret doesn’t have her hat yet. But you will! By mid-week. I promise.

And, this better work this time! Not that you’ll know if it doesn’t. HA!
