Bumpday – 20 Weeks

Halfway there! AND, I’m starting to feel like I actually look like a pregnant person instead of a person who’s been over-indulging their urge to eat ice cream. I cannot lie (very well), people – I am usually pretty lactose intolerant, and pregnancy is giving me a free pass for dairy, so I am indulging. I’ve heard that the lactose intolerance returns almost immediately upon expelling my parasite, and I am trying to store up enough ice cream love to last me the rest of my life. It’s been so awesome that I briefly considering becoming a Duggar, just so I could eat ice cream once/week.

I honestly tried to take a picture of my bump for y’all this morning, because I finally feel as if I’m bumpy instead of chubby-looking. BUT, it was too dark in my room (stupid winter, right?) and the flash in the mirror didn’t help for brightness. Next week. I promise! (FOR REALS!)

I’ve really been enjoying getting more exercise. My energy has been slowly returning, which has been good. Running is really not working for me, for some reason. Not sure if it’s motivational or what. However, I’ve been getting some good quality bike trainer time in. I am going to break down & get a pair of maternity bike shorts, though. I think that will help immensely. I’ve also started incorporating some simple upper body strength training, and have enjoyed that as well. So biking, weights, swimming, and walking – I think that will be just fine, right? I’ll keep trying to run, but would rather concentrate on things I actually currently find enjoyable than scheduling runs that I don’t do.

I’m trying to add 30 minutes of exercise every week until I get up to a reasonable amount again (i.e. 4-6 hours/week). Last week I hit 3 hours (yay!), so I’m getting closer!

I was talking to my parents last weekend and had made a couple comments about “so-and-so who’s pregnant” and my dad said that I sure do know a lot of pregnant people – and it’s true! At work, two of my employees recently gave birth, a woman who was helping me out while one of those aforementioned employees was on maternity leave is pregnant, another work colleague is pregnant (her name: Amy; her due date: 2.5 weeks after mine; our department will be sadly Amy-less in the spring), one of my neighbors just had a kid, and another good friend is pregnant. It’s like an epidemic! (Don’t drink the water!) (Unless you want to get knocked up, I guess…then drink away!)

Anyways! I have decided to stop weighing myself, although my scale has not gone on vacation, I am trying to ignore it. And so far, it’s working. I haven’t weighed myself in a couple of weeks, and am just going to determine that I have actually gained only 10 lbs (the last time I saw a scale, that’s what it said), and go with that until my next appointment in December. When maybe I will try hard to not look (that is a lie – I will totally look). I have finally started being able to eat real, healthy foods again, and have been having salads almost every day for lunch plus eating more fruit (2-3 servings a day of that). Of course, last night I had fries for dinner, but there were special circumstances.

Also last night, the architect & I toured a daycare. And I love it. I kind of want to enroll myself!  We paid $40 and are now on a waitlist….I hope we get in. They are so awesome, what with their organic vegetarian meals, and cloth diapers, and I love their approach to learning. Of course, there were about 15 families on the tour. Several of them already had kids, so wouldn’t be in competition with my own child (as the waitlist is divided by age group, and not just raw numbers), but probably 1/3 of the women there were pregnant. I had to fight urges to stand behind the other pregnant women and whisper terrible rumors like, “I heard that one of the classes they teach is in chicken butchery and once a child cut off his whole arm!” and “they recruit their teachers from the sex offenders registry” and other awful things. Alvie is not even born yet, and already I’m ready to cut a bitch for a spot in an infant daycare. What’s wrong with me?

ANYWAYS – that is the bumpday update. Let me know if you have any questions. I will answer (almost) anything!

Gratitude Journal

November 16, 2011: I am grateful for all the little luxuries I have that I often take for granted…my car, my phone, the coffee maker (so very grateful for my coffee maker). It’s so easy to caught up in the things I don’t have that I occasionally forget how very lucky I am. My life is so freaking awesome.

November 15, 2011: I am grateful that I have the kind of job/life/etc. that allows me to afford pretty shoes, and the level-headedness that keeps me from buying (very many) shoes that wouldn’t be practical.

November 14, 2011: I am grateful that I work in a place with lots of little food nooks. It’s always an easy walk to grab more food. Which I do more often than ever, lately.

November 13, 2011: I am grateful for streaming Netflix (and Hulu Plus!). Also, I am grateful for John Barrowman. And my new found love of Torchwood.

November 12, 2011: I am grateful for my awesome friends! I got so much good quality friend-time this weekend! Walks & cocoa & thrifting with her! Ornament painting and dinner and movies with Alisa, Jen, Lisa & Sarah! Cocoa and a chat with her! (I should maybe also mention that I’m grateful for hot cocoa.)

November 11, 2011: I am grateful for laid back evenings at home with the architect.

November 10, 2011: I am grateful to live in Portland, Oregon. It is so beautiful here. I love that we have four seasons, and I especially love autumn.

November 9, 2011: I am grateful for modern medical conveniences that help eliminate unnecessary surprises from my life. Yay for ultrasounds!

November 8, 2011: I am grateful for my brand-new employee who started today, who I am hoping will help take some of the financial reporting burden off my plate & allow me to do a better job on the more big-picture things.

November 7, 2011: I am grateful for weekends and the opportunity to relax and recharge.

November 6, 2011: I am grateful for running – and grateful that I am still able to run. I am also grateful for my proximity to the most awesome running park in the history of the world: Forest Park.

November 5, 2011:I am grateful that I was able to discover enough courage to join Toastmasters. I know this sounds super cheesy, but it’s really made a HUGE difference in my life.

November 4, 2011: I am grateful for the internet, which gives me the ability to work from home, in my pajamas, this morning.

November 3, 2011: I am grateful that I have a good job that is challenging & interesting, if not necessarily catering to my life interests.

November 2, 2011: I am grateful for the architect, who is simply wonderful. He picks up the household slack when I’m busy with schoolwork, brings me chicken fingers on his way home from work, and is simply the most wonderful husband I could ask for…

November 1, 2011:  I am grateful for my (so far, knock on wood) easy and wonderful pregnancy.
