Potential

This time of year is always hard for me. I love autumn, but I hate that my garden goes from a wild jungle of deliciousness to a rather barren spot, in need of cover crops and over-wintering veggies. This year, I still have my wild jungle of (green) tomatoes.

My fall cabbages are still pretty unimpressive looking, and I don’t really have any fall blooming flowers (something I definitely need to rectify immediately).

I have a few carrots left in the ground.

There are some squashes ripening:

My peppers are FINALLY starting to do something.

However – a lot of the garden is empty & barren.

It’s this time of year that I constantly need to remind myself that what I’m seeing when I look at the bare dirt is potential.

The potential for life.

The potential for beauty.

The potential for beer!

I don’t know what next year will bring, but I bet it will be awesome.
