Why Christianity Rules
Left Behind: the video game. You may not know the premise of the Left Behind books (and the movie), but it’s basically (as far as I know – haven’t read or viewed) what happens to those left behind after the good people are raptured up to heaven.
So – this video game encourages you, a left-behind person who wants nothing more than to survive the years of trials and tribulations so that you, too, can go to heaven and dance play the harp with the angels.
Actual quote (from the official website): “Conduct physical & spiritual warfare using the power of prayer to strengthen your troops in combat and wield modern military weaponry throughout the game world.” (Emphasis mine)
“…offer a less graphic experience to the sexual themes and gratuitous violence currently found in many titles” – so shooting the unbelievers with modern military weaponry is not gratuitous violence?
I understand that the characters shout things like “Praise Jesus” while exterminating the Muslims and Jews.
From another blog: “You are on a mission – both a religious mission and a military mission” to convert or kill Catholics, Jews, Muslims, Buddhists, gays, and anyone who advocates the separation of church and state – especially moderate, mainstream Christians. Your mission is “to conduct physical and spiritual warfare – all who resist must be taken out with extreme prejudice.”
Before I get hate mail, I know that this does not represent all Christianity. Some of my best fathers and mothers are Christians who would never shoot Buddhists or gay people (although I’d have to ask them about the Catholics…ha ha) But damn, this is fucked up.
Also – I promise this is not about to become a religion blog, even though Jesus has been mentioned three times this week.
