My peeps

I would like to tell you about my friend brad.

Brad & I met years ago, because I worked with his then-roommate. We met at an impromptu party that involved a LOT of vodka, and his silly roommate (hi Brian!) ordering 6 pizzas from the 2-for-1 pizza place, while drunk, which meant that the five of us ended up with 12 pizzas. Twelve large pizzas. Five drunk people. There were 7 1/2 pizzas left at the end of the night.

We saw each other once or twice after that. Brad was always on the verge of breaking up with his boyfriend, but never quite got around to it. We lost touch after Brian & I both lost our jobs, and didn’t see as much of each other anymore. Later, after Brian had left LA for Idaho, I got an email from him, and saw Brad’s email address. On a whim, I contacted him. We started emailing, and soon after, got together for drinks (I drove right through his neighborhood on my way home from work). That started the tradition of Bradley/Amy happy hour nights. We got together to drink heavily every 3-4 weeks, and have been doing so for the last almost-five years. He is probably my best friend in Los Angeles.

Brad is a song-writer & musician, and a writer. He’s currently working on finishing the first season of a night-time soap called “Carlton Heights” which is one of the funniest things I’ve ever read.

We went out tonight. It was so good to hang out with him, but I was struck with the realization that we really only have less than four months left of Amy/Bradley happy hour nights left. I am so happy to be moving, until I think about the people I’m leaving behind. I know I’ll come visit, and he’ll come visit, but it’ll never be quite the same.

It’s so good to have good friends. I’m still very close with my bestest college girl-friends (hi Sara!), but it’s never quite the same.

I just wanted to express my appreciation for the good friends in my life. I know I’ll make more friends, and that I’ll be richer for the making, but I’m gonna miss that Bradley Jacobson so much.
